Psychological Formulations
Our clinical team offers in-depth psychological formulations to help staff understand the individual needs, histories, and behaviours of the children and young people they support.
Each formulation draws on trauma-informed, attachment, and developmental theory to make sense of underlying emotional patterns and coping strategies.
We translate complex psychology into practical, compassionate strategies that guide everyday care, de-escalation, and relationship building, empowering staff to respond with empathy and confidence.

Embedding a Therapeutic Approach
At Mind Forest Psychology, we work alongside organisations to embed therapeutic principles into the heart of residential and educational settings. Through tailored consultation, training, and reflective development, we help teams move beyond “managing behaviour” towards understanding the emotional meaning behind it. Our collaborative approach ensures that policies, staff interactions, and environments all reflect the values of safety, connection, and growth. Creating consistent, healing relationships that transform outcomes for young people.
-
Clinical Supervision & Reflective Practice
Clinical supervision and reflective practice provide a safe, supportive space for professionals to process their experiences, explore emotional impact, and strengthen resilience.
Our sessions are facilitated by experienced clinicians who understand the pressures of working in trauma-affected settings.
We promote curiosity, emotional regulation, and self-awareness, helping staff stay grounded, compassionate, and aligned with best practice. Over time, this reflective culture enhances team cohesion, wellbeing, and the overall quality of care.

1-1 Therapy for Children and Young People
Our 1-1 therapeutic work provides a safe, nurturing space for children and young people to explore their thoughts, feelings, and experiences at their own pace. Using trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches, therapy focuses on helping young people develop emotional regulation, self-understanding, and trust in relationships. Sessions are tailored to individual needs and can incorporate creative, play-based, or cognitive approaches depending on the child’s age, preferences, and goals. Our therapists work closely with residential and education staff to ensure that therapeutic progress is supported across all aspects of care.

Psychometric Assessments
Mind Forest Psychology offers a range of psychometric and observational assessments to deepen understanding of each child’s unique strengths and challenges. These include the Secure Base Checklist, Child Behaviour Checklist, and the Coventry Grid to explore indicators of autism and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). We also assess sensory preferences, emotional development, and relational patterns to build a holistic picture of need. Each assessment concludes with a detailed, accessible report and clear recommendations for care planning, intervention, and environmental adaptation, helping teams to work more effectively and therapeutically with every young person.

Enabling Environments
An enabling environment is one that actively meets a child’s emotional and sensory needs, helping them to feel safe, calm, and understood. Following a sensory or environmental assessment, we provide tailored recommendations, tools, and resources to adapt the physical and relational environment in line with each young person’s sensory preferences and regulation needs. From lighting and sound to daily routines and staff interactions, small adjustments can create profound changes in how a child experiences their world. Our goal is to support services to build environments that reduce distress, promote engagement, and empower children to thrive.
